Big, bright and beautiful - rainbow layer and ruffle cake.

For Charlottes 6th birthday it was all rainbows and ruffles for a georgous little girl. I love bright colours so this was a great pleasure and a lot of fun. Using Americolour Gels from the Electric colour range gave these awesome bright hues.

Even the papers from the bottom of the cake tin looked awesome!

The off cuts of the cake gave a hint of how bright and airy the layers would be, just waiting to be smooshed together with a layer of vanilla buttercream.

This is my first cake layered from top to bottom and I think I did a pretty good job! It took a couple of goes to get the layers working and ruffling the right way. I tried with straight ribbons of colour first but the layers just didn't have that nice soft look. I dont have a garret frill cutter so I made do with two large circle cutters - one with a scalloped edge. This allowed me to drape the ruffle nicely adding a few pinches and pleats to bulk it up.

With matching fondant buttons and bows, the little La La Loopsy Doll looks right at home.

What yummy layers and wonder of wonders I even got the ruffles to line up with the inside layers.

Hope you had an amazing birthday miss Charlotte.
